Lakota Tears
With an act of kindness, a Union soldier returns an injured native boy to his mother. I planned the symbolism of this painting to represent a feeling of the conflicts of western expansion of the American frontier and the losses to the native population. Both the Indians and soldiers are connected to their horses, yet this horse stands in a division between both sides. The innocence of the boy has been lost when he was injured. I represent the soldier as the one who found the native boy on the prairie and wants to do the right thing in kindness.
