"Rufous Hummingbirds & Wedding Vase"

For well over a decade, birds have fluttered into my art. It started as a way to cope with the loss of my mother and to keep her memory alive. Now it provides an opportunity to connect with others who have experienced the difficulties that come with losing a loved one.

This was my parent's wedding vase. They met in college, got married after graduation, and lived their lives happily together until my Mom passed away at 58. Even though my Dad was still young he told me my Mother was it for him. Now at 73, his love for her has never faded. I wanted to commemorate their special love by painting this vase with two adoring hummingbirds.
